My styling projects and work on Simple.Honest.Design have been getting all of the limelight lately, but there is more to my business than the on camera and styling portion. In fact, exterior site plans and designs are what make up the majority of my work. From new construction - like this one - to renovations and consultations, meeting with clients, and deciding what plant should go where, conceptual to installation - these projects make up the most of my work. The photos shown here are the most recent project that was installed - The Sheppard Residence.
This home was designed by Lucy Barr and built by Titan Homes. Lucy created a symmetrical, formal home for the Sheppard family, including a motor court for additional parking for guests. To reflect the formal style of the house, I designed a simple, symmetrical, formal landscape, with a small plant list. I wanted the house to be the showcase and for the landscape to compliment it, not to be overpowering and take away from the beauty of the home.
Seasonal color bed (viola), boxwood, weeping japanese maple, fern, and little gem magnolia make up this formal landscape bed.
The photo above shows the same landscape bed as the previous photo from the front. The dwarf japanese maple was placed centered with the niche in the house and the little gem magnolia was placed just off the corner to add height and soften the edge of the house.
The back yard was designed for the interim. A pathway and larger patio is to come in the future but we used sod and simple landscape beds for now until the Sheppards are ready for that portion of the project.
Brad at Southern Style Landscaping in Mobile installed and maintains this project. We worked together on the entire install, including placing the massive 100 gallon magnolias, and the placement of almost every plant on the job.
