I've been styling a lot of patios, porches, decks, and courtyards as of late, and I love sending clients a little digital images to show them what I'm envisioning for their space. This client wanted a New Orleans style.....but more casual. So I pulled together a concept board that I'm calling "relaxed New Orleans".
When I think of New Orleans design aesthetic, I think of old brick, intricate iron balconies, bright painted shutters, and lush courtyards - like these.
So rich and detailed, right?
It all just feels a little too, I dunno, fancy? for this client. So I put together a concept board that was a little more casual. In the end it'll be detailed too, but just less fussy than the traditional New Orleans courtyard style I conjure up when that style is mentioned.
Since the client wanted a more relaxed feel, I opted for less ornate black metal touches, softer colors, and loose ferns in hanging planters, but didn't abandon the basic principals that make up the standard feel of a New Orleans courtyard. This board of photos is really more of a sneak peek than it is an all inclusive design, but every detail will come soon enough on an upcoming Simple.Honest.Design.
What do you think of this relaxed New Orleans style? Is it the right style for you? If you know someone who would love it, pass it along!
